What Can You Use LiFePO4 Batteries For?
36V and 48V Electric Golf Carts
Boat Trolling Motors
Powering lights, refrigerators, fans, and more in RVs, Campers, and Vans
Solar and Off-Grid Power Systems
Portable Power and Emergency Backup
What You Should Not Use LiFePO4 Baterries For
LiFePO4 batteries should never be used to start engines or in any system that relies on an alternator for charging. Both startup motors and alternators are specifically designed for lead-acid batteries, which have very different charging and current characteristics than LiFePO4.
Using a LiFePO4 battery in these applications can:
Damage the battery, because deep-cycle LiFePO₄ cells aren’t designed for the high current spikes of starter motors.
Damage the alternator, which may overcharge or stress the battery’s Battery Management System (BMS).
Shorten battery life, even if the battery appears to work initially.
Examples of applications to avoid:
Gas Engines (lawnmowers, generators, etc.)
Vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.)
ATVs
